Procurement decisions look like cost decisions until you reach BBBEE verification season — then suddenly the choice of supplier is worth points on your scorecard. Here's how it actually works.
The multiplier
Spend with a Level 1 contributor counts at 135% of the actual rand value on your Procurement scorecard. So a R1 million order from Afrivex contributes R1.35 million in recognised procurement.
Why suppliers downgrade quietly
BBBEE certificates are annual. A supplier may have been Level 2 last year and stayed Level 2 this year, but a competitor that was Level 4 may have moved to Level 1. Always ask for the current certificate, not the brand reputation.
What to ask for
- Current valid BBBEE certificate (not older than 12 months)
- Sworn affidavit (for EMEs/QSEs where applicable)
- Procurement schedule
- Supplier development declaration
All of the above is on the Afrivex website footer — and in the procurement pack we attach to every quote.
